Tamil Nadu is the latest Indian state to announce a total lockdown for 14 days, extending from May 10 to May 24. During this time, all factories will close and cease production. The government’s decision was announced on Friday, May 7 following an alarming rise in new infections.

Nationwide, the crisis is showing few signs of easing with the highest single-day death toll recorded on Saturday, May 8 of 4,187. Some estimates indicate that India could see 1 million COVID deaths by August. There have been just over 240,000 fatalities to-date and over 22 million recorded cases (though the actual numbers are likely much higher).

The following is a breakdown of COVID and lockdown status by state, gathered from SILQ teams stationed in major apparel production hubs.

Maharashtra (Mumbai)

New Delhi (NCR Region)

West Bengal (Kolkata)

Karnataka (Bangalore)

Tamil Nadu (Chennai & Tirupur)
