Frequently Asked Questions

What is Silq’s Shared Container Load service?

Silq Shared Container Load (SCL) is our flagship service designed to make shipping more efficient. We combine cargo from up to three accredited shippers into one container. This enables us to fill containers to their fullest potential and minimize our customers’ shipping costs and carbon footprint.

How do you determine the price of a Shared Container Load shipment?

SCL prices depend on your shipment’s weight, volume, and routing. First, we determine the amount of space that your shipment will require within a 40ft HC container. Then, we identify complementary shipments within our network to consolidate your cargo with. This helps maximize container utilization and offer the best possible shipping price for you.

How is SCL different from LCL?

Silq’s Shared Container Load (SCL) service is the only ocean consolidation solution that is designed for high-volume shippers. It is the cheapest, fastest, and most carbon-friendly way to move shipments that are between 15 to 50 cbm. Meanwhile, traditional LCL is only viable for shipments that are under 15 cbm. After that point, it becomes more economical to ship a partially used FCL container than to ship LCL.

Why is SCL a better choice for larger shipments that aren’t full-container size?

Once cargo volume exceeds 15 CBM, LCL often becomes more expensive and less efficient. SCL offers an economical alternative for shipments between 15–50 CBM—delivering lower per-unit costs, fewer handling points, reduced theft and loss risk, and improved inventory flow by allowing smaller, more frequent shipments.

How does SCL speed up shipments compared to LCL?

SCL pairs your cargo with just one or two other shippers heading to the same destination. This minimizes intermediate stops for loading and unloading, meaning containers depart and arrive faster than traditional LCL. With weekly sailings and vetted shipment pairings, your cargo moves predictably and on schedule.
